Fula cotton and commodity

    Part 1 β€œFula Q & A”

Q1: Is it true that no detergent is necessary if you use β€œFula cotton”?

A1: As hard as it may be to believe, it is true. The reason is the hand-spun excellent material of Fula cotton. Water absorption rate of Fula products are whopping 127.1%. Meaning, Fula cotton products do absorb water more than its own volume. That prevents oily substances from entering into fibers but instead removes oil by water, which is not a case with ordinary cotton towel.

In the experiment, the cleaning capability of dish washing detergents and Fula cotton were compared by washing oily dishes. Fula cotton completely removed oily substances but not the dish washing detergents. We have a video of the experiment. You are more than welcome to watch.

127.1% water absorption rate had been measured in the absorption capability test conducted by Mikawa Textile Research Center. From another experiment conducted by the said center in 1990, the water absorption rate of ordinary towel was 84%. The dishcloth commonly used in Meiji era, which was spun by throttle with lower twist level, was 107%, . From the data, you can tell that Fula cotton is the best quality textile.

From the above information, the spinning technology of Meiji era is seemingly worse in quality but better in water absorption. Cloth produced in Meiji era probably felt better to touch. What did we trade to live the life we are living?

When Fula came to our home, we no longer needed any form of synthetic detergent. Well, we use cleaning agent occasionally. The difference between cleaning agent and synthetic detergent is explained in the book written by Dr. Ryuichi Utsugi that one uses chemically synthesized surfactant and another uses natural surfactant made from oil or lard.

Also, aforementioned book explains scientifically why the basic skin care products are not necessary for anyone to have beautiful skin. If you would like to know more about why showering only with Fula cotton is sanitary, rather healthy and better for your skin, you might like to check it out.
